Unit 3: Session 3: Input, Output, Memory, and Storage Devices of a Computer System

  1. The monitor is the part of a computer that allows the users to view information on a screen.
  2. CPU is also a part of the computer that sends signals to other parts of the computer to tell them what to do.
  3. RAM is a short-term storage memory and is lost when the computer is turned off.
  4. Speaker is also a part of the computer that allows them to hear the information from the computer.
  5. Computer Hardware is an alternate name of all the physical parts of a Computer System.
  6. Hard Disk is a part of a computer that stores data, programs, settings, and the operating system while the computer is off. While it is on, it spins inside the computer reading and writing the data.
  7. There are two basic types of disk drives. magnetic disk-drives and flash drives.
  8. A printed copy is often called Hard Copy.
  9. The CPU is made of two smaller components the arithmetic logic unit or ALU and the Control Unit or CU.
  10. The binary system uses the symbols Zero (0) and One(1).
  11. The digits of the binary system are called binary digits.
  12. A unit of an 8-bit memory cell group is called a Byte.
  13. A KB in computer terminology is equal to 1024 Bytes.
  14. The most familiar output device for the microcomputer is called a monitor.
  15. The four functional components of a digital computer are input device, processing device, storage device, an output device.
  16. Internal storage is also called main storage.
  17. Instructions to a computer are given through input devices.
  18. Calculations are made in computer with the help of its ALU (arithmetical logic unit).
  19. The term bit stands for binary digit.
  20. A unit of measure equal to approximately 1 billion bytes is called a gigabyte.
