Communication is a process for sending or receiving information from each other. In other words, Communication is the way to understand all things and it keeps a great advantage.
Types of Communication
We all know that Communication is a process to send your information with others or to receives other’s information, but it can be done in many different ways to communicate with each other. There are following ways or types of communication which is defined below –
- Verbal form
- Non-verbal form
- Written form
- Visual form
Those are different form of communication that is shown above.
1.Verbal form
This form of communication refers to communicate orally with others.
2. Non-Verbal form
This form of communication refers to communicate with body language and also be using gestures or tone, and pitch.
3.Written form
This form of communication refers to communicate via hand-written or printed information.
4. Visual form
This form of communication refers to communicate via graphics like combination of pictures, audio, video, and other type of document file.
Pros and Cons of various types of Communication
There are a few pros & cons of most types of Communication. If we saying in other words, Everything has its some pros and cons.
Pros and Cons of Verbal/Oral Communication
This is one of them and a special type of communication. In this type of Communication, we can communicate with others through spoken form or words.
This type of communication has contained some pros and cons.
Pros -:
- Verbal/Oral communication helps us to express our feelings and explain the meanings in the present time with others.
- Verbal/Oral communication helps us to give a chance to the reciever to clarify if anything is unclear.
- Verbal/Oral communication gives us the chance to enhance the speed of communication.
- Verbal/Oral communication gives us the feedback of communication that we does with others.
- This is a preferred form for maintaining relationships as verbal communication along with effective non-verbal communication makes the professional and personal bonds.
Cons -:
- Verbal/Oral communication may not be sufficient in different setup because this type of communication refers to the same type of people who understands the same language.
- Verbal/Oral communication may not be sufficient in long-distance communication without any type of medium.
- In Verbal/Oral communication, peoples most often don’t keep a record of communication.
- In Verbal/Oral communication, there are some emotional barriers to block your communication, if you are tired too much to speak out something special.
Pros and Cons of Non-Verbal Communication
In Non-Verbal Communication, we uses body languages and various type of tones, gestures, and pitches. So therefore, sometimes it is perfect for communication and sometimes it is not perfect for communication at the various places.
Pros -:
- Non-Verbal Communication is useful when you have a lack of time.
- Non-verbal Communication is useful when we want to stop/start the activities with the help of some gestures in very little time.
- Non-Verbal Communication is useful even when two people don’t understand each one’s language.
- Non-Verbal Communication is useful when we want to explain somethings quietly without making noise.
Cons -:
- Non-Verbal Communication is useless for lengthy messages.
- Non-Verbal Communication makes your communication incomplete.
- Non-Verbal Communication is useless if you don’t understand the meaning of some gestures and tones.
- Non-Verbal Communication is useless if two persons are of different cultures and regionals because gestures and tones will be different in different cultures and regionals.
Pros and Cons of Visual Communication
Visual communication shows professional communication, Its own advantages and disadvantages for everybody. This type of communication has the best point of view.
Pros -:
- Visual Communication re-inforces other types of communication to be given messages more clear.
- Visual Communication is the best choice for explaining things easily and graphically without speaking.
- Visual communication can be necessary for all peoples that belong to different cities and countries.
Cons -:
- Visual Communication is comparatively expansive than other types of communication.
- Visual Communication is not just only expansive but it can be difficult to store them and represent them sequentially.
- Visual Communication can take more time to represent the message to others.
- Visual communication can never give a full form of communication without the help of other types of communication.
Pros and Cons of Written Communication
Written communication is the best choice when we want to communicate through written form and store them permanently before its expiration time, it also has its own advantage and disadvantage.
Pros -:
- Written communication is the best choice when we want to store a communication and use them in future time.
- Written communication shows your message or document legal, because all the legal documents are in written form.
- Written communication also has one more great advantage that is, if we want to use our document repeatedly so we can do it easily.
- Written communication is suitable for long messages. e.g., budget, reports, manuals and so on.
Cons -:
- Written communication is costly as a visual communication.
- Written communication is time consuming as a visual communication.
- Written communication has a big disadvantage that is, this communication has language barriers.
- Written communication may be costly gradually with storage consumption.
Impact of Body Language
We have also known that 93% of communication can be done without words, and out of 93%, about 55% contribution is of our body-language. So we have to know about body language because this makes your communication effective. So now, we are going to see about what should do with our body language, and what should don’t with our body language.
Do’s of Body Language
- Always stand up with a straight back and relaxed posture.
- keep your arms by your sides.
- Sit with a straight spine.
- Smile as you enter into a room.
- Greet others with a smile.
- Make eye contact while speaking to someone.
Don’ts of Body Language
- Don’t fake your smile. Smile genuinely.
- Don’t fold your arms over your chest.
- Don’t look away while in conversation.
- Do not touch your face repeatedly.
- Don’t keep your hands in your pocket while talking.
- Do not lean forward or backward while sitting.
